Creative Minds and Creative Classrooms - Fashion Forecasting (Week 5)

Fashion forecasting is the prediction of the mood, behaviour and buying habits of the consumer over a short-term periods of two years in advance; and also over longer term periods of five years in advance.  Fashion forecasters look into how and why the consumer buys based on their mood, beliefs and the occasion.  Fashion trends are not the same as fashion forecasting.  Fashion trends are the styling ideas that major collections have in common.  Fashion forecasting looks at the psychological, sociological, cultural and commercial indicators that signal new fashion trends.

Fashion spreads across all sectors from cars to cosmetics, politics and sports. Social and cultural changes are major determents of emerging fashions.  Globalisation and communication technologies have given the consumer faster and broader access to ideas and influences from other cultures and society.  This pushes the demand for wider choices across all fashion products.
